Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Commercial Crew Structures and Mechanisms System Engineer with Aerodyne, a JETS teammates company.

The Commercial Crew Structures and Mechanisms System Engineer will:
  • Provide system engineering oversight for vehicle Structures and Mechanisms system and subsystems
  • Provide technical integration including System Requirements and Verification of vehicle system hardware
  • Provide oversight and input to SDR/PDR/CDR design cycle and Review Item Description documentation
  • Provide structural analysis, fracture analysis, mechanism analysis
  • Provide review of design and verification documentation related to Structures and Mechanisms systems and hardware
  • Review Flight Rules, Change Requests, Short Sheets, Integrated Risk Management Application
  • Provide Mission Evaluation Room support
  • Provide technical insight to Integrated Safety Review Panel activities
  • Provide technical support to Vehicle Board and Panel meetings
  • Under the direction of the System Manager, act as subsystem manager for Structures and Mechanisms subsystems and hardware
  • Analyze structural interfaces to other vehicles
  • Coordinate with other technical disciplines to solve technical issues
  • Perform other duties as required
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years related engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience with hardware and operations in direct engineering experience on Space Vehicles
  • Should have a complete understanding of structural and mechanism design for space applications including fracture analysis.
  • Should have a working knowledge and experience with Shuttle and/or International Space Station space flight design and verification documentation and requirements
  • Should have a working knowledge and experience with Shuttle and/or International Space Station flight operations and documentation
  • Must have good communication and organizational skill and the ability to work in a team environment

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
