Power Trading Analyst - up to £130,000 / £250,000 total compensation

Job Description

Some adverts would say, do you have a passion for gas? We’re not sure that works…therefore, do you want to continue your career modelling gas markets, with exposure to ML?

Here, you’ll work with some of the most successful commodities traders in the world and get plenty of exposure to greenfield, machine learning projects.

This is a great mix of a traditional Power and Gas Analyst with a large sprinkling of a modern Data Science. You’ll be working closely with the traders to build out models for commodities trading, specifically around gas markets. There’ll be the typical fundamental knowledge required of gas markets and demand modelling, but you’ll also be able to implement brand-new machine learning models – you’ll have plenty of freedom for research here.

You’re going to be developing systematic trading strategies for power markets. You don’t need to have built these types of strategies before, but of course, you’re going to need to be able to come up with ideas to do so, using “Data Science”. Sometimes this will involve basic mathematical or statistical models, other times they’ll involve using more complex Machine Learning models. This will be down to you to decide the best model to use, in collaboration with the wider team.

In terms of your experience, you’ll need to come from a strong academic background in a STEM subject, plus have a few years’ experience in gas markets modelling. Strong technical experience with Python, R or MATLAB will also be required. If you’ve used higher level languages such as Java, C++ etc. that would be a huge plus.

Any Machine Learning knowledge and/or experience in any form would be a huge plus, given you’ll be working to implement ML models daily.

Starting salary will be up to £130,000 plus 100% bonus. Additionally, you could transfer a portion of the bonus into equity. There’s a range of other benefits that we can discuss on application.

Want to use ML to build systematic trading strategies for gas and power markets? Get in touch.
