The Environmental Specialist reports directly to the Environmental Manager and is responsible for construction planning and execution, and compliance monitoring in terrestrial, riparian, freshwater, and marine areas.

Primary Job Duties/Functions:

1. Responsible for the review of construction scopes against regulatory requirements, permit conditions, and Environmental Management Requirements.
2. Consult crews planning and execution of construction activities under Fisheries Act Authorizations and other permits.
3. Oversight of execution contractors and support staff
4. Provide professional opinion on matters related to execution of environmentally sensitive scopes
5. Field direction of effective execution of habitat complexing scopes, construction, and reclamation
6. Ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations, and investigating compliance and conformance.
7. Effective record keeping of environmental observations and compliance monitoring activities
8. Provide Qualified Environmental Professional oversight and input into environmental work packages and compliance observations
9. Conduct and document pre-disturbance and construction monitoring activities, document action items, and close out
10. Implements and supervises techniques to minimize environmental hazards. Performs and inspects construction activities against permit conditions and regulations.
11. Supervises, training courses and trapper educational courses. Assists in mentoring junior field staff, writing proposals, operations, logistics, quality control and planning.
12. Works independently and in a cross disciplinary team environment. Role is predominantly field based with office support for administrative component.
13. Participates in the development of standards, guidelines and program execution as they relate to health, environment and safety (HES) policies, procedures, standards.
14. Interacts and interfaces with clients and environmental regulators.
15. Liaises with project teams and clients.

Working Conditions:

1. Project site/field working conditions.
2. Onsite-site project workspace of various conditions which may include temporary office facilities and exposure to moving, mechanical parts and vibration, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and various levels of outside weather.

Basic Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications Including Education and Related Experience:

1. Bachelor's of Environmental Science or Biology or equivalent.
2. Eight (8) years experience in project environmental management.
3. Strong knowledge of local, provincial and federal environmental regulations.
4. Experience in working in marine, estuary, freshwater, and terrestrial environments.
5. Previous working experience in oil and gas, hydroelectric and mining projects would be considered as an asset.
6. Strong and demonstrated experience in implementing projects, managing resources, leading teams, project management, client relations, technical writing, business development, aquatic ecosystems and the collection of baseline data.
7. Experienced with early works, civil, and marine construction
8. Excellent skills in project management, technical writing, construction planning, and environmental monitoring

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities including Licenses and Certifications:

1. Registration as an R.P. Bio in good standing with CAB-BC or other QEP designation
2. Strong understanding of regulatory compliance.
3. Strong verbal and communication skills.
4. High levels of innovation, initiative, strategically inclined and result driven.
5. Valid driver's license.
