The Role

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the System Validation Team with a focus on high voltage battery charging and safety. The primary responsibility of this team is to validate all system level software requirements prior to release. The scope of responsibility includes functional, safety and performance requirements for all vehicle related programs including vehicles, stationary charging systems and mobile charging solutions. Tesla is continuously making improvements to its existing product line, as well as launching new products at a break neck pace. The validation engineer must maintain a close relationship with all members of the design cycle to guarantee they are prepared to rigorously test all new features and changes made in their area of responsibility.

  • Interact with system architects, hardware and software design engineers, program and project managers to maintain an expert level understanding in the area of high voltage battery charging and safety
  • Participate in system DFMEAs
  • Execute integration and verification tests alongside architects and developers to enable rapid iteration on design and implementation
  • Create detailed and rigorous test specifications based on system requirements
  • Invent methods and tools to execute tests and evaluate results in an efficient and dependable manor
  • Invent ways to leverage limited test resources for maximum product impact
  • Execute validation tests and document results in a process conforming manor
  • Communicate validation status and risk to management
  • Investigate reported field issues as they relate to high voltage battery charging and safety software
  • Continuously look for ways to improve the safety, performance and customer satisfaction with Tesla products
  • Promote and protect Tesla's reputation as a cutting-edge company producing the world's most exciting cars and shifting the paradigm of personal transportation worldwide

  • BS Degree in electrical, computer or mechanical engineering or equivalent required
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging electronics and complex electro-mechanical products
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages
  • Experience with test automation a plus
  • Experience in battery management systems a plus
  • Experience with automotive or green energy background a plus
  • Interest in solving complex and time critical problems
