Our client operates and maintains Heathrow Airport's two fuel tank farms and three fuel hydrant systems. It handles all aviation fuel that is supplied into Heathrow and delivered to all airlines on site.

Candidates must have experience of writing permits to work (PTW) within a process operating environment, i.e. oil & gas, water treatment, waste water treatment, pharmaceutical, beverage etc. You should have hands-on experience as a mechanical engineer / site engineer with a good practical understanding of pipework, valves and pumps / rotating machinery. You should have an aptitude for understanding process safety and risk in a tank farm environment. You may have experience as a permit to work coordinator. Oil & Gas experience will be ideal but other process industry experience will be considered e.g. Water, Pharmaceutical, Beverage (dairy / brewery / soft drinks).

The primary focus of the Control of Work Engineer is to provide leadership and coordination of the process safety and control of work systems. You will lead process safety initiatives and manage control of work systems. This includes a permit to work process, 3rd party permit to work systems, Service Clearance processes, Access and Clearance Certificates, Isolation and Lock Out processes, Overrides and Tag-In / Tag-Out systems.

The role will involve being able to assess hazards and ensure safe systems of work are in place to address the risks associated. This will include preparing risk assessments, method statements and writing permits to work. You will also carry out service clearance including identification on the ground and comparing with existing documentation / drawings. Candidates must be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills to be able to influence and provide clear instruction to staff and 3rd party workers. You will work with contractors to ensure safe systems of work around fuel system assets.

The required skills include good practical mechanical knowledge, understanding the elements of risk, experience of writing permits to work, good planning skills, effective communication, written and IT skills.
