Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Communication & Information Systems Consultant to join our established Defence and Security business in the new and rapidly expanding area of Communication & Information Systems.

Our Defence and Security business is based in Bristol and has a wide portfolio of existing projects with a diverse range of major Defence clients across all key sectors. You will have the opportunity to work across this team, but will primarily be focussed on helping shape solutions and support the growth of our new, but rapidly expanding Communications and Information Systems area.

Supportive team environments are a central to our business culture and you will be a key part of our Communications and Information Systems team. Our projects are varied and fast moving so you will have a broad range of opportunities to apply your skills to different problems. In addition, we usually work in multidisciplinary teams and this means you will have the opportunity to work with and pull in wider professionals for advice to ensure we get the right results for our business and clients.

As such, this is an exciting opportunity to use your broad experience and in-depth technical skills to really make a difference to both our business and our clients.

As a Senior Communication & Information Systems Consultant:

  • You will have the opportunity to shape and deliver innovative and high quality solutions directly for our clients in a new, but rapidly expanding area of our Defence business.
  • Work with an established team supporting a range of Defence & government clients on critical and strategic client projects.
  • Lead key tasks on projects reporting directly to the project manager.
  • Provide occasional, but essential input to bids and wider business activities where your skills will be seen a real asset
  • Work closely with peers and mentors to plan tasks and contribute to our business goals.
  • Communicate and liaise effectively with colleagues.
  • Work predominately within the South West (Bristol & Bath), but with occasional wider travel as required


  • Pragmatic personality with customer facing skills. - You are comfortable communicating at all levels of an organisation and can translate between technical and business language.
  • Enterprise & Solution Architecture (with a focus on practical and achievable architectures) - In addition, security and federated architectures would be useful and an understanding of architectural pattern re-use.
  • Information Architectures and ICT technologies - You have excellent knowledge of information architectures, ICT technologies and how to use them from an organisational perspective (i.e. gateways, cloud computing, delamination, encapsulation/VM ware, patch management & configuration control)
  • Service Architecture & Service Management - You have an excellent understanding of both design and implementation. You have a good understanding of the business architectures and how they relate to the technical architectures and commercial models. You have a working knowledge of IBAs, SLAs and OLAs and how they are applied.
  • You have an excellent understanding of the approaches to ICS/ICT organisational governance & how to integrate it within a Service focussed business.
  • You have experience of large scale system Integration and integration into heterogeneous environments.
  • You have a good knowledge of architectural frameworks (e.g. TOGAF / MODAF / NAF).
  • You have a good knowledge IT Service Management Frameworks, including at least one of ITIL, COBIT, FitSM or ISO/IEC 20000.
  • You have SC clearance or above

Highly Desirable:

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • BCS qualified Practitioner of Enterprise & Solution Architecture
  • TOGAF practitioner
  • ITIL
  • ISO/IEC 20000.
  • Chartered IT Professional
