Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Works within a multi-disciplined integrated government/contractor team.
  • Performing engineering studies and analyses in a broad range of disciplines related to Energetic Materials technical disciplines; particularly in engineering disciplines such as Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Materials, and other scientific fields such as Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science.
  • Develops, modifies and executes complex test procedures.
  • Direct development of testing and application of new materials and designs to protect critical structures from blast and fragmentation.
  • Leading or participating in research, development, test, and evaluation activities as required.
  • Leading design efforts by taking systems engineering approaches to include requirements flow-down, development and analysis; design analysis; prototype development and testing, installation, and demonstration; and mentors/perform training to junior engineers, engineering assistants and technicians as required.
  • Leading or quality checking end product system/subsystem design using computer aided engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Ansys.
  • Performing and checking engineering analysis and calculations using engineering tools from across the degreed discipline of study, including free body diagrams, engineering mechanics, and energy balances.
  • Performing technical project management such as developing technical approaches, developing project implementation methodologies, monitoring project compliance with appropriate design and building codes, creating and implementing, plans and schedules, developing/writing and executing test plans.
  • Managing technical support activities from technicians and subcontractors and implement corrective actions.
  • Writing/publishing technical reports and developing associated presentations.
  • Monitoring client satisfaction.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing with project team members and client.
  • Travel to offsite locations as required. If Senior Engineer of the traveling team, functions as team leader.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work location is at AFCEC, Det 1, 9700 Compound and Test Ranges, Tyndall AFB, FL.


*This is a temporary position with anticipated length of service one year from date of hire.



Required Education, Training, and Experience

  • BS Degree (Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Materials, and other scientific fields such as Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science) from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) to twelve (12) years of related engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and seven (7) to ten (10) years of related engineering experience.
  • Must favorably pass a National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC). Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.


  • Must be fluent user of Microsoft Office software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Project, and be able to create documents for digital signatures.
  • Experience using MS Project for AFCEC programs is a plus. Familiarity with SharePoint 2010/2013 is a plus. Experience in briefing program leadership and visiting dignitaries on program status and milestones.


CTLC Requirements:

  • Senior Chemical/ Material Engineer
  • BS/MS in Chemical Engineering, Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.
  • 7yrs directly related experience (5yrs with MS degree). At least 3yrs progressive responsibility in providing technical leadership.
  • Senior level engineering services and technical leadership of Chemical/Material Engineering.


Physical Requirements

  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen.
  • Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: bending, reaching, turning and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distances may be required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.

Work Environment

  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
  • Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates.
  • Needs to be able to work well with co-workers, customer, and all levels of management.
  • Potential hazards on job include examining energetic materials experiment results, but no unusual environmental conditions.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required during specific tasks.
  • Work site is located in a two story office building and surrounding outdoor test ranges, at Tyndall AFB, FL.


Equipment and Machines

  • Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required

Attendance

  • Regular hours will be between Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.

Other Essential Functions

  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers.
  • Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required.
  • Travel to and from customer's locations and the test fields may be required to support projects.
  • This may involve airline travel.
  • In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.
  • When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
