JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development. Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Sustaining Engineering Lab Manager with HX5, a JETS teammate company.

The Sustaining Engineering Lab (SEL) Manager will:
  • Provide oversight to a team of technicians establishing prioritization, scheduling, and allocation of resources on project hardware needs within the laboratory
  • Serve as the primary customer interface for the lab and work with each customer to understand their requirements, drivers, and timelines
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with laboratory staff and customers acting as the liaison on the needs between those parties
  • Provide technical input on work authorizing documents and engineering drawings
  • Prepare and execute task performance sheets and discrepancy reports for controlled hardware fabrication tasks
  • Develop and implement solutions to engineering and fabrication problems
  • Maintain laboratory documentation, equipment, and tools to meet requirements
  • Assist with procure needs for laboratory tools, hardware, and consumables
  • Facilitate test readiness reviews and prepare associated documentation
  • Manage an electrostatic sensitive device (ESD) control plan and act as the facility ESD monitor for the SEL
  • Ensure a safe, well-maintained laboratory is available for development, fabrication and testing of both flight and non-flight hardware
  • Verify that optimum quality is achieved in all deliverables
  • Perform other duties as required
Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and ten (10) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication and written presentation skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in leading and managing a high performing team
  • Experience providing management and prioritization responsibilities for multiple projects with overlapping schedule demands
  • Ability to read and understand electronic and other engineering drawings
  • Able to make independent, technical and tactical decisions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications

  • Previous electronics manufacturing experience highly desired
  • Knowledge of NASA workmanship standards, and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) standards
  • Prior experience writing procedures and work instructions
  • Knowledge of JSC flight hardware processes

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).


Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.

Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
