Xcel Energy is seeking an Engineering & Technical Support Manager for our Tolk Station Power Plant located in Earth, TX.
Position Summary
Manage the engineering, controls, instrumentation, and chemistry work performed in one or more of Xcel Energy's power generating facilities. Provide leadership to the power plant with primary focus on system assessments, system operation and performance, system maintenance, system projects, and improved plant performance. Key responsibilities of the position and its team are long-term improvement of plant assets and providing near-term engineering and technical support.
  • Oversee plant engineering and technical support including support for critical equipment, chemistry needs, controls, and instrumentation. Support operations and maintenance by assessing equipment, inspecting equipment, making recommendations, and monitoring plant performance. Assess plant performance risks, make recommendations to plant staff, and establish plans to mitigate risks. Provide systems inspections during overhauls/outages. Support and maintain plant compliance programs as directed.
  • Identify and develop capital projects that support improved plant performance, MW production, environmental regulations, improved heat rate, employee and plant safety. Ensures plant drawings and equipment records for projects are properly archived.
  • Ensure system event assessments and root cause analysis (RCAs) are performed when required and that mitigation plans are in place to optimize plant performance. Ensure RCAs results are shared with the system teams, promoting lessons learned and best practices.
  • Provide leadership to team of engineers and technical support staff. Ensure performance expectations and work assignment priorities are clearly communicated and understood. Manage and drive team performance in alignment with corporate and plant KPI's, improve safety performance, and ensure appropriate training and development opportunities are provided and completed. Responsible for hiring and compensation decisions.
  • Implement, monitor, and hold direct reports accountable to the work management process.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in power plant engineering, original equipment manufacturing (OEM), or equivalent experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Technical knowledge in power plant engineering, design, and technical support is desired.
  • Previous management experience is desired.
  • Selection process may include testing and/or assessment.
  • Requires the successful completion of the Mid-Level Assessment (given if requirements are met)
This position requires a behavioral assessment prior to being considered for an interview.
