The Wind Electrical Systems (WES) Design Engineer is part of the wind product and design process and is a key person for successful, high quality New Product Introduction execution, fulfillment and field issue resolution.
This role is a global engineering role where the scope of the Wind Electrical Systems team includes electrical systems and components for GE wind turbines.

Essential Responsibilities

The range of components that span generators, power cables, medium voltage switch gears, transformers to electrical tower internals, cable harnesses, slip-rings and aviation lights as well as including the definition of the testing and inspection of wind turbine assemblies on the shop floor. The broad electrical scope of the team provides an opportunity for the Wind Electrical Systems Design Engineer to optimize turbine electrical systems and components.

  • Execute Engineering design work on wind turbine electrical components and their assembly within the wind turbine system, especially related to cable harnesses and optional, project specific equipment like for example aviation lights.
  • Full component ownership. Starting with the definition of characteristics across technical clarification, interface definition, prototyping, testing, and introduction into manufacturing up to field issue resolution.
  • Definition and control of complete technical documentation of electrical components and subassemblies, including specifications, bills of material, drawings, 3D-models, and schematics.
  • Ensure compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN etc.
  • Preparation of design / analysis documentation, e.g. Design Practices, design record book articles, Work Desk Instructions (WDI), etc.
  • Support Sourcing organization for new supplier qualification and supplier audits.
  • Support root cause analysis on technical issues.
  • Work closely with global and cross-functional teams as well as the Technical Leaders and global team members to ensure high quality and on-time delivery for all engineering assignments.


  • BA/MA in Electrical Engineering.
  • comprehensive experience of electrical components, applications and practices.
  • Familiar with international codes and standards like IEC, UL, CSA, ISO, CE, CCC, DIN etc
  • Positive mindset with good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment.
  • Self-motivated.
