The Engineering & Science Services and Skills Augmentation (ESSSA) contract provides engineering, scientific and engineering technician support to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. Integrate designs for both flight and non-flight hardware including Structural and Mechanical Hardware. Work with large assembly and subassembly models in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Provide engineering design functions for time critical hardware designs, and support on-going manufacturing of complex assemblies.

Job duties will include:

  • Coordination with NASA project level customers across organizations to ensure mission success.
  • Work with a large team of engineers and designers to select hardware components.
  • Develop CREO (Pro Engineer) models of structures and mechanisms.
  • Develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, and provide fabrication support to shop personnel.
  • Participate in task meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Collaborate with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers on the development of integrated flight hardware.
  • Develop and deliver reports and presentations to MSFC and ESSSA management as needed.
  • Minimal travel required.

Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D. with a minimum of 8 years of experience, a Masters with at least 10 years of experience, or a BS with at least 12 years of experience.


Proficiency with CREO CAD Modeling software is required. Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Experience with NASA Design Specifications, and Standards is highly desired.

The ideal candidate will be an engineer who possesses the following skills:

  • Proficient in PTC CREO Parametric 3-D modeling and 2-D drafting
    • Familiarity with
      • Large assemblies and large assembly management techniques
      • Working with surfacing techniques
      • Working with Import Data doctor and data sharing features
  • Proficient with
    • GD&T (ASME Y14.5M-1994)
  • CAD drafting standards such as Global Drawing Requirements
    • MIL-STD-100, etc., and Interface Control Drawings.
  • MSFC CAD Standard
    • Using PDM system for active CAD data management
      • Familiarity with
        • Handling CAD and drawing CM processes through release.
          • Formulating engineering calculations using excel, MathCad, etc.
          • Launch vehicles
          • Creo View and/or JT visualization

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%).

Physical Requirements

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).


Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
