This is a NASA Test, Evaluation and Support contract position; it may be assigned to Jacobs Technology Inc. or a teammate company.

Candidate will provide instrumentation and controls support to propulsion test projects conducted in the 300 and 400 areas. Duties will include instrumentation and control system design, build up, checkout, validation, actively support propulsion test operations and perform post test data analysis. Candidate may also support maintaining, operating, repairing and upgrading facility electrical systems in Propulsion such as area warning lights, RF and hardwire intercom system, UV Detection system and FIREX control system. Duties could also include maintaining and operating Propulsion area standard video system and High Speed, High Definition and IR video systems to support test operations.
Minimum of two (2) years college or vocational training in area of specialty plus twelve (12) years relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education/experience for total of fourteen (14) years. Demonstrated Electrical Engineering expertise with instrumentation and controls systems. Experience in the following is required: design, calibration, and application of instrumentation, data systems, or data acquisition systems, particularly in an aerospace testing environment; uncertainty analysis, data analysis, design of hardwire controls systems and computerized control systems including development of associated control system software to meet test requirements. OPTO 22 and/or Allen-Bradley hardware and programming experience is highly desired.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Desk/office and test area work. Test area work involves standing and directing technical personnel. Also involves working with and around components that htave been exposed to hypergolic propellants. Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. Position requires individual to travel to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility. All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.

Physical Requirements

Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Typically required to lift and hold up to 30 pounds. Position is located on a hazardous testing facility; must be able to quickly evacuate buildings in the event of an emergency. May be required to wear breathing protection (respirator), hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.

Equipment and Machines

Computer work required. Exempt employees will not operate equipment and machines involved in the performance of testing; union personnel perform these direct functions. However, exempt salaried personnel in this job will work around pressurized fluid systems (nitrogen, helium air, water) and systems containing hypergolic propellant and components. Knowledge of Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Project is required. Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required. Operation of a government motor vehicle may be required.


Regular attendance and punctuality is required. Occasional overtime may be required in support of test project schedules or other priority assignments as determined by management or customer needs. Normal working hours are nine (9) hour per day with some flexibility based on pre-approval. A condensed work schedule, allowing alternate Fridays off, is typically in use for each two week pay cycle (9-80 schedule). Personnel in this branch are cross-trained to allow for normal planned vacation and sick leave.

Other Essential Functions

Knowledge and experience using Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel and MS Project are required. Priority assignments as determined by management or customer needs. Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Must maintain site access to NASA facilities and computer systems. Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must posses a valid state drivers's license. Must past a Federal background investigation. Must pass an employment physical and submit to drug testing.
