Innovation & Concept Development
The Innovation & Concept Development (I&C) department has the charter to drive rapid, fear-less exploration and incubation of disruptive solutions in the service of Vestas' goal to be the undisputed global wind leader. We work with our colleagues in the Technology & Service Solutions (TSS) organization to bring commercially relevant, game changing ideas to the market in a profitable way; we drive TSS' technology strategy and road mapping, the discovery and incubation of new technology and product concepts as well as foster external networks to harness the world's creativity.

Your primary responsibility will be to define, develop & implement design and simulation frameworks for the next generation of wind energy systems that integrate the best-in-class from outside Vestas with internal codes and tools.

In addition we expect you to:
  • Develop, improve and integrate physics-based, and process parametric models for various parts of the wind value chain considering existing and future technologies
  • Evangelize and use collaborative platforms for rapid development & proof-of-concept demonstrations for new technologies, products and capabilities, while working in teams across the Vestas Turbine, Power Plant and Service organizations.
  • Drive innovation by maintaining and exploiting networks across academia and the R&D community in the MDAO, System and Stochastic design communities

You have a Masters' degree and/or Ph.D. in Engineering (Wind, Aerospace, Industrial/Systems, Mechanical etc.) or computer science, applied mathematics or another relevant field combined with several years' experience.

Furthermore you have:
  • a demonstrated R&D depth, and relevant experience in a core discipline within the Wind Turbine/Plant design and engineering space
  • focus on design integration and the ability to conceive new concepts and drive them to realization would be a plus
  • broad understanding of a Wind Energy systems, their primary functions, interactions and impact on techno-economic metrics.
  • demonstrated expertise and analytical skills in modeling, simulation and analysis of deterministic and stochastic physical systems, and preferably the ability to integrate life-cycle models into system level models to inform top-level operational and technology
  • expertise in multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) techniques, frameworks and the software/computing skills to design and develop system-level toolkits
  • capability to execute with, and teach, soft computing and uncertainty quantification techniques

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Computer Science/ Software Engineering and distributed/high-performance computing, including scripting, experience with different simulation engines, and developing and using APIs
  • Expertise with model-based design/computing and high-end data exploration or visualization environments; experience with data models & formats (e.g. HDF, XML)
  • Ability to organize and drive collaborative development and demonstration activities across cross-functional teams
  • Capability of independently managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, often with colleagues distributed globally

Additional information
Work location will preferably be at Vestas Technology & Service Solutions Headquarter in Aarhus, Denmark.

You will work close together with colleagues globally in Vestas, engage in technology scouting and create/maintain partner networks outside Vestas, so approximately 40 travelling days per year may be expected.
