Position Summary

With some supervision, performs complex analysis, troubleshooting, problem evaluations, and overall engineering support for Duke Energy Renewables' solar and wind generation facilities. Engineering support may encompass mechanical, structural, or civil engineering concepts related to various aspects of the generation plant. Works closely with operations staff and/or external customers primarily in support of operations and project activity. May carry out project management, leadership, or supervisory functions as required. Assists other team members in accomplishing their assignments. Develops systematic approaches to solve complex problems.

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience

• Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

• Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

Basic Qualifications

B.S. degree in Mechanical, Materials/Structural, or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited program AND two plus years of engineering experience.

A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the BS in Engineering degree.

Valid driver's license

Desired Qualifications

• Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam towards becoming a Professional Engineer

• Understanding of the basic principles of project management

• Experience in contracting for and supervising engineering resources.

• Experience in the utility industry, particularly prior wind or solar experience.

• Previous experience with wind turbine blades or related composites

• Demonstrated ability to set priorities, negotiate, control stressful situations, provide instructions, training, and direction to others.

• Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instruction, convert those instructions to work product, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively.

• Demonstrated ability to conquer challenging work requirements and achieve results regardless of detailed subject knowledge through the application of technical abilities and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated ability to collect and organize data, study and apply policies/procedures, evaluate graphic and/or numerical information, effectively organize and monitor technical work including ability to read and comprehend technical drawings, graphs, maps and other technical documents.

Working Conditions

• Must be able to climb a wind turbine after receiving training

• Must be able to respond to O&M Support outside normal working hours as required

• Must be able and willing to travel to various locations around the US as required
