As a Mechanical Design Engineer and member of the Engineering Team, you will apply your technical knowledge and professional experience to the successful development and technical support of the NOV Borehole Enlargement product line. Acting under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, the role requires excellent organisational skills and an understanding of potential downhole tool challenges combined with the ability to apply creative problem solving techniques. An appreciation of the commercial implications of engineering decision making, attention to detail, the ability to work effectively with other team members, a keen focus on delivery and the ability to turn fast-paced business-driven requirements into profitable solutions are all critical to success in this role. To perform effectively, excellent working relationships will need to be built and maintained with all business functions in this international market. You will be expected to be a focal point for technical matters related to Borehole Enlargement.


• Development and extension of product line designs and procedures.
• Coordinating design and development programs in accordance with NOV design control procedures
• Tool design (NPD) and/or Product Line Engineering (PLE) development activities including initial design drawings, calculations, material selection and specification.
• Provide Engineering Support for Operations and Procurement/ Supply Chain.
• Checking of drawings and calculations within the Engineering Team.
• Organise and actively participate in regular design reviews.
• Coordinating the prototype manufacture of new design components, including liaising with NOV manufacturing and 3rd party suppliers
• Development of workshop and field tool test plans, supervising test programs and compiling test reports and conclusions.
• Estimation, monitoring and controlling of development and/or PLE project costs
• Supervising and coordinating the competent servicing of development tools and mechanisms
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

  • HND Mechanical Engineering (essential)
  • BSc/BEng/MSc Mechanical Engineering advantageous


  • Working knowledge within design role
  • Working knowledge of design/support role in downhole environment

Desirable Skills,Training or Specialist Knowledge
  • MS Office

  • Do wnhole tool design
  • SolidWorks, EPDM, TCE system experience
  • FEA, CFD, MathCAD
