Role synopsis:
The Planning & Commercial Analyst is part of the Greater Prudhoe Bay (GPB) Area Planning and Commercial Manager's team. GPB is a super-giant field and one of North America's largest with over 12bn barrels of oil produced since start up in 1977.

The role offers a breadth of finance and JV management exposure by supporting Technical Functions in the planning and performance arena, upholding the investment governance process and providing commercial support to our joint ventures. The position is located in Anchorage and works closely supporting clients/parties based on the North Slope and/or in Anchorage.

Key accountabilities:
  • Owns the Finance interface with Function Budget Responsible Owners (BROs)
  • Supports quarterly forecast/variances and monthly accruals/actuals reviews - use the process to drive to a safer more profitable business for the longer term
  • Works with Accounting Reporting and Control (ARC) department to maintain integrity of the financial data that adheres to accounting policies
  • Works with BROs to performance manage delivery of the Area Development Plans (ADP)
  • Provides joint venture commercial support the joint ventures
  • Provides economic evaluation support to the business
  • Supports ARC in resolution of audit issues
  • Contributes to our migration toward a more robust systems infrastructure
  • Modernizes and transforms the business through technology (Power BI, Power Apps) and/or new ways of working (Agile, BRO empowerment)
  • Provides ad-hoc support to key initiatives


Essential Education:
  • Minimum of an accounting, finance or other business degree


Essential experience and job requirements:
  • Strong analytical and financial skills: economic evaluation, accounting, reporting, cost management
  • Ability to act independently and challenge the status quo within a given remit while maintaining a connection to the team and the business
  • Understanding of system controls, financial controls, and risk assessment, and ability to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity
  • Relationship management skills: influence, communications, confidence, team work
  • A self starter with attention to detail who embraces change and directs their learning and development to build their skill set and improve the business
  • Microsoft Office 365 proficient (Power BI, Power Apps etc. expertise a plus)
  • Financial systems and economic evaluation tools experience useful
  • Ability to manage multiple/conflicting priorities


Other Requirements (e.g. Travel, Location):
Willing and able to work an Anchorage-based position.

Desirable criteria & qualifications:
  • Exposure to economic analysis, accounting and cost management in the oil and gas business
  • Experience with the use of financial systems and tools to support an oil and gas business
  • Experience with data analysis, visualization loos and leveraging analytical intelligence
