Until 2011, the solar industry represented a very small portion of electricity production and solar jobs in the UK. However, the introduction of a feed-in-tariff subsidy in 2010 generated massive development within the solar industry in the UK. 

Recently this year it was revealed that for the first time, the sun provided more UK electricity from PV panels than coal-fired power plants over a 24 hour period. This amounted to just under 30GW/hours or the equivalent of 4% of national demand being met by solar energy.
