Government Relations/External Relations (GR/ER) | Part of Shell Graduate Programme

Your Graduate Programme in GR/ER:
As a graduate within the GR/ER area of the Shell Graduate Programme you can expect an industry-leading two to three-year on-job learning programme, offering real responsibilities, challenges and continued professional development. As a GR/ER professional you'll provide the essential support that is needed to form long-term relationships with our stakeholders (government bodies, industry and investor associations, partner companies, JVs, diplomatic communities, communities in the areas of our operations).
You'll need a high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate across all areas of the business, to join us. The GR/ER team is responsible for every relationship Shell Kazakhstan has with the stakeholders and the image and reputation of the company. You will play a pivotal role in helping Shell Kazakhstan work with projects to enhance our relationship with host communities and government, and local authorities and on social investment projects.

Roles and Responsibilities
As you will be experiencing different projects within GR/ER at Shell Kazakhstan you can discover your strengths, develop your skillset and propel your career to remarkable heights. Within GR/ER you may have the opportunity to work in business areas, such as:

  • Government relations
  • External relations
  • External/internal communications
  • Social performance

And take on a range of responsibilities including:

  • Performing/contributing to stakeholder analysis
  • Stakeholder relations management
  • Developing/contributing to country reputation strategy
  • Developing and implementing communication plans for various projects (internal and external)
  • Participation in crisis communications
  • Delivery of /contribution to Social investment projects
  • Inputs in non-technical risks assessment

Your Background:
The GR/ER graduate programme particularly suits ambitious graduates (0-3 yrs work experience) pursuing or holding with a Master or Advanced degree in Communication, Political Science, Social Studies/Humanities, Development Studies or similar. Evidence of good negotiation and project management skills and strong communications skills, both verbal and written in Russian and English languages. Good command of Kazakh language is a huge advantage. Domestically and internationally mobile.

The application process for our graduate programmes is rigorous, but is designed to enable the most talented graduates to stand out. After submitting an online application, you will be invited to complete our online assessments and our on demand interview. Successful candidates will be invited to final stage of the selection process in a virtual assessment. This stage includes a live virtual case study session with two Shell employees who will host the discussion. You will be assigned a topic relating to an aspect of your case, and then asked to prepare a presentation.
