The Steam Turbine Applications Engineer (STAE) will work closely with the PS Sales, Commercial, Performance Services teams as well as Design Engineering from initial opportunity identification through order conversion. In this role you will utilize conceptual and critical thinking and the ability to determine applicability of Alstom technology to various turbine configurations to provide customer specific solutions.

Essential Responsibilities

- Support PS Sales in Steam Turbine (ST) growth opportunities and screening for CM&U's
- Leverage Remote Monitoring and Diagnostics data and other configuration tools to support demand creation for Combined cycle units
- Work closely with Senior & Principal Engineers and other domain experts to develop competitive offerings/customer solutions
- Collect and/or review all available turbine data and assess applicability of Alstom technology
- Ensure accurate application of Alstom technology to existing steam turbines to address customer Critical to Quality Elements (CTQ's) such as output, efficiency, and reliability improvements
- Identify risk areas and address technical issues inherent with retrofitting various small, medium and large steam turbines
- Support preparation of technical proposals and define the necessary hardware scope, engineering cost, and cycle to complete the upgrade
- Review customer specifications and ensure offering satisfies requirements and identify exceptions and/or clarifications
- Develop and maintain up-to-date work plans on assigned proposals and review them periodically with managers typically weekly at a schedule meeting
- Work closely with the ST Centers of Excellence/New Product Introduction teams to identify and develop technical offerings
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations at customer meetings and conferences
- Support continuous process improvement using LEAN Six Sigma or other simplification tools
- Work closely with ST Performance and Gas Turbine Application Engineering/Performance to support upgrade opportunities impacting Steam Turbine


- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or or any other related engineering degree from an accredited university or college.
- Strong understanding of Mechanical and Thermodynamic concepts
- 8 years of related engineering experience
- 4 years of related steam turbine experience
- Proven experience in Alstom Steam Turbine technology
- Ability to work well with teams and communicate requests and requirements clearly
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Capable of coaching others to accomplish assignments
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership experience
- Demonstrated ability in establishing common goals and objectives
- Demonstrated ability in influencing and shaping team's long term vision and strategy

Desired Characteristics

- Strong background and understanding of core combined cycle technology
- Understanding of ST Operability and combined cycle operation
- Self-starter with initiative and interpersonal skills to direct projects and work of cross- functional nature, with demonstrated ability to provide technical support necessary to drive projects to completion.
- Experience in Alstom steam turbine design and manufacturing
- Working knowledge of steam turbine maintenance & inspection methods and repair solutions
- Advanced Engineering Degree
- Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills
- Understands GE's products, capabilities and limitations in sufficient detail to be able to develop offerings that meet customer needs
- Desire to go above and beyond basic day-to-day responsibilities
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% on short notice
