ABB is seeking a R&D Scientist located in Ladenburg, Germany who will collaborate with a team of researchers and ABB businesses world-wide, manage external relations (e.g. with universities) while participating with real data and systems to address industrial problems through leading-edge applied research.

Tasks:
With the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT) in industrial domains like electrical grids, Industrie 4.0, building automation or smart homes, the connected devices and the network infrastructures phase new challenges. Technology advancements in embedded systems and wired/wireless communication pushing more functionality and information to embedded devices which use Internet technology as basis for communication, sensing,or control.
In collaboration with various ABB branches and universities, we develop innovative concepts and software components for those intelligent devices. This includes
- Working in international R&D teams from concept to implementation
- Specification and realization of SW components in the area of Device and Communication Management on system or edge device
- Looking for trends by evaluating the market, competitors and university research and their impact on device development and system integration
- Presentation of research results inside and outside of the ABB Group

Requirements:
- PhD (appreciated), Master degree, or equivalent experiences
- Creativity, initiative, enthusiasm, and results orientation to drive your inventions towards new products and services
- Thorough understanding of state-of-the art technologies and methodologies for Design of Embedded Systems/Edge Devices
- Understand the implications of having systems of interconnected intelligent devices in the functional and non-functional specifications of a device and how to handle the product lifecycle of such devices (e.g. commissioning, changes in communication infrastructure, firmware upgrades, maintenance)
- Experience in relation to automation devices or industrial communication, in Building, Process or Grid automation
- Software development processes, model based development (e.g. RDF, EMF), experience in the implementation with Java, C, C++, C# or equivalent; Middleware technologies (OPC UA, MQTT, REST, Web Services, OSGI). Experience in automation domains is an advantage.
