Jacobs' Atlanta-based tunnel engineering group designs tunnels and other underground structures for water, wastewater, and transportation projects. The group is currently working on some of the largest underground construction projects under design and construction in the USA. We are seeking a Tunnel Engineer to join our team of experienced tunneling and geotechnical professionals in Atlanta. This role offers potential for career growth, and the opportunity to work on major underground projects.

The Tunnel Engineer position involves a range of interesting and challenging responsibilities. The Tunnel Engineer will work collaboratively with other engineers and technical staff. Representative tasks include:

• Evaluation of ground conditions and geotechnical parameters for design.
• Calculations for excavation support and underground structure design.
• Development of design drawings and specifications.
• Design of geotechnical instrumentation.
• Evaluation of construction costs and schedules.
• Review of contractor submittals during construction.
• Construction observations and reporting.

• B.S. in Civil Engineering or related discipline is required. Concentration in structural engineering and/or geotechnical engineering strongly preferred; M.S. in Civil Engineering specializing in structural or geotechnical engineering is preferred.
• E.I./ E.I.T. registration required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to travel within the USA is required.
• 2-5 years' experience in design and/or construction, in one or more of the following areas of practice: Tunnels and shafts; Excavation support and shoring; Reinforced concrete structures.
• Geotechnical exploration and site characterization experience preferred.
• Geotechnical engineering software, such as the Rocscience suite of programs.
• Structural engineering codes and standards experience is preferred.
• Structural engineering software experience, such as STAAD is preferred .
• Numerical modeling software experience for design of excavations and/or concrete structures is preferred.
