The purpose of this position is to provide and perform a variety of professional planning activities for the City. Analyzes and assesses the effectiveness of programs. Our Planner II will provide informative written and oral reports, and/or presentations and delivers them to diverse audiences. Acts as the lead planner in the development of critical, urgent and high level projects. You will also Track issues that have an impact on the goals of the department.

CH2M provides a range of custom-tailored operations and maintenance solutions. The City Planner II at the City of Johns Creek will support the Community Development Department. The purpose of this position is to provide and perform a variety of professional planning activities for the City. Analyzes and assesses the effectiveness of programs. Our Planner II will provide informative written and oral reports, and/or presentations and delivers them to diverse audiences. Acts as the lead planner in the development of critical, urgent and high level projects. You will also Track issues that have an impact on the goals of the department. Prepares and reviews City ordinances. CH2M has provided services to our client in Johns Creek, GA since 2007 when the City incorporated and partnered in a public/private partnership with CH2M. Johns Creek is in Fulton County, GA and is an upscale residential community with a population of 83,000 residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversees and thoroughly reviews development and land use applications projects, including architectural, zoning, site and environmental impact plans to ensure projects are valid and consistent within the departments guidelines; makes appropriate recommendations
• Responsible for coordinating in house reviews with contractors, and ensures that plans and applications receive appropriate signatures
• Manages consultant contracts including determining scope of work and budgets, and approving contract payments
• Responsible for gathering, developing, and analyzing the data used in the preparation of routine project analysis reports and staff reports involving land use and permits for development plans
• Monitors projects in regards to milestones and deadlines; recognizes and resolves problems
• Advises builders, developers, property owners and other departments on City ordinances, requirements, and resolutions, planning and zoning policies and provides technical design assistance when needed
• Assists in preparing general plan updates; reviews and drafts City ordinances
• Makes presentations to the Planning Commission on routine development matters
• Performs other similar duties as assigned

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in city, urban or environmental planning, architecture or a related field
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in planning and zoning
• Must posses a valid State Driver's license

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
• Master's Degree in city, urban or environmental planning, architecture or a related field
• Five (5) years of experience in a responsible city or suburban planning position
• Knowledge of principles, practices and procedures related to City and suburban planning and zoning administration, including applicable laws and regulations
• Strong knowledge of the practices for researching planning issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective staff reports
• Ability to conduct zoning studies and interpret City zoning laws, regulations and codes using specialized computer software such as GIS and AutoCAD
• Ability to complete complex current and advanced planning and zoning conformance activities in an independent and effective manner
• Ability to manage projects and conducting site inspections
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications; graphic skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong inter-personal relationship skills and the ability to interpret apply and explain complex laws, codes, regulations and ordinances
