This position is to serve as a Wind Tunnel Instrumentation Engineer for the Jacobs ATOM Group at NASA Ames Research Center in the Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel facility in Mountain View, California. The successful candidate will be responsible for specifying, testing, deploying, repairing, modification, and maintenance of complete systems used for production in wind tunnel testing. The Instrumentation Engineer will also work with a staff of Instrumentation Technicians who will implement the engineer's design(s). These efforts will involve using suites of modern electronic instrumentation. This position requires shift work including Day, Swing and Grave shifts, depending on wind tunnel test requirements. This position also requires the candidate to complete on the job Safety Training to perform assigned work activities. This candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance to allow participation in testing of classified test articles.

The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Math/Physics, Computer Science, or other related disciplines. Applicable school projects or on-the-job experience will be a plus. Experience with the following types of instrumentation is desired: Strain gages and their signal conditioning, precision pressure measurements, precision temperature measurements, and accelerometers. It will be a plus to possess an understanding of analog filter design, sampling theory, and signal analysis. Experience with VXI or PXI(e) based intelligent systems is desired. Experience with Windows OS, Mac OS and Unix/Linux OS environments is desired. Strong skills using LabVIEW and MATLAB is desired. Experience with a CAD/CAM or drawing package (MacDraft, Intaglio, Vectorworks) is a plus. Experience with working in small to medium sized multidisciplinary groups will be helpful. Background and experience in aeronautics, instrumentation, data systems and wind tunnel testing is also desirable.
