Position Summary

Complex highways and transportation schemes require a multi-disciplinary approach, with highways engineers in the pivotal role of project leaders. As such, you will be part of a team that will require to regularly interfacing with other disciplines, such as geotechnical, structures, environmental and traffic, building on your experience in differing aspects of engineering and enabling you to fully demonstrate and develop your current skills.

You will have responsibility for the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme reports, scheme orders and detailed highway designs for major projects throughout Ireland. You will also attend progress meetings, public exhibitions and public inquiries. The role will also encompass resource, financial and commercial management as well as construction supervision

  • You will lead a team of junior engineers and technicians working on a variety of highway projects
  • Assisting the project manager you will be responsible for the preparation of feasibility studies, scheme reports, scheme orders and detailed highway design for major and minor projects
  • You will attend progress meetings, public exhibitions and public inquiries
  • The role will also encompass resource, financial and commercial management

  • A degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered engineer or working towards chartership
  • Strong and extensive experience in most aspects of major highway schemes.
  • Capable of managing a challenging workload subject to change at short notice.
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of alignment and junction design using Bentley MX or Autodesk Civil3D
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in the application of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW)
  • Experience of highway drainage design
  • Confident with proven interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Experience of design and build projects.
  • Experience of construction supervision.
  • Knowledge of the financial management and control of projects.
  • Good working knowledge of different contract types and procurement options.
  • Able to produce well presented and accurate reports.
  • Experience of Autodesk Vault
  • Experience of highway drainage design using MicroDrainage WinDES
  • Experience of the delivery of preliminary and detailed highway design, including the submission of Departures from Standards and scheme assessment reporting
  • Experience of Local Authority highway schemes
