Job Title: Operations Geologist
Job Purpose
The Operations Geologist I is responsible for maximizing the potential of each well drilled through meticulous planning, high-quality operational support, and effective team leadership. The role ensures safe and efficient geological operations across multiple rigs, contributing to the successful delivery of new wells and workovers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Geological Operations & Planning
- Coordinate geological operations for up to 35–40 new wells and re-drill workovers annually across 3–5 rigs.
- Co-own and manage the Well Statement of Requirements (SOR) process with the Drilling & Wells team.
- Ensure seamless coordination between operational follow-up and drilling sequence planning.
- Maintain a long-term view of upcoming wells and reservoir data needs.
- Support BOD checks to ensure optimal well design.
- Act as deputy for the New Well Delivery Manager when required.
- Optimize staffing levels for WSG and OPS geologists to match operational demands.
2. HSE Compliance
- Demonstrate personal commitment to HSE policies and standards.
- Ensure all certifications (e.g., BOSIET) are valid for operational execution.
- Actively participate in safety initiatives and ensure compliance with statutory and company HSE requirements.
3. Well Planning & Execution
- Lead detailed well planning from Basis of Design (BOD) to handover.
- Produce timely and accurate Well SORs and data acquisition programs.
- Collaborate with Growth and RESM teams to assess opportunities and provide operational input.
- Integrate pressure predictions and conditioning plans into well planning.
- Support post-well reviews with both static and operational insights.
4. Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Oversee geological operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost optimization.
- Monitor service quality, approve invoices, and track data acquisition costs.
- Maintain regular communication with service providers (mud logging, LWD, wireline, coring).
- Lead service quality meetings and prepare associated reports.
- Propose and implement KPIs for the Operations Geology team.
5. Quality Control & Knowledge Management
- Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of Final Geological Reports.
- Capture and update lessons learned and Return on Experience (REX) documentation.
- Conduct detailed post-well reviews and ensure continuous improvement.
6. Technical Excellence & Mentorship
- Provide technical justification for formation evaluation and data acquisition strategies.
- Integrate multidisciplinary inputs into key documents (WSOR, Geological Programs, Final Reports).
- Mentor junior operations geologists and wellsite geologists.
- Conduct technical audits and participate in key HSE and pre-job briefings.
- Represent the company positively with external stakeholders and agencies.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Reservoir Engineering, or Petroleum Engineering (Master’s ).
- Valid offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET).
Experience
- Minimum 15 years in a subsurface or geological operations role.
- Proven experience in well planning, execution, and post-well analysis.
- Strong understanding of formation evaluation, pressure prediction, and data acquisition.
Skills & Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of geological operations and NOC processes.
- Strong leadership and project management capabilities.
- Cross-functional understanding of subsurface disciplines.
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders and board-level executives.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
Assignment Details
- Position: Operations Geologist
- Tentative Start Date: 1st November 2025
- Contract Duration: 18 months
- Working Schedule: 28/28 rotational assignment
- Work Location: Doha, Qatar
