Heavy Duty Mechanic

One of our clients, a major mining company, has tasked us with finding a skilled Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic to join their team on a 1-year contract in Prince George, BC. This role is critical in maintaining and repairing heavy industrial equipment to ensure operational efficiency and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Disassemble, inspect, and reassemble components such as engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel/exhaust systems, brakes, clutches, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and lubrication systems.

  • Diagnose faults using computerized and manual testing equipment to determine necessary repairs.

  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and major breakdown repairs on heavy equipment.

  • Test and inspect drill units, diesel compressors, hydraulic support equipment, and high-pressure water pumps to detect malfunctions.

  • Service attachments and working tools, ensuring optimal performance.

  • Verify and repair emission control systems in compliance with regulations.

  • Mentor apprentices and collaborate with the team to achieve maintenance targets.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working with industrial heavy equipment (hydraulic systems, diesel engines, compressors, drill units, trucks, crawlers, and pumps).

  • Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification (required).

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Certification ().

  • Strong diagnostic, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Experience with drilling equipment is an asset.

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
