A renewable energy IPP is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the design, analysis, interconnection, and delivery of solar and battery storage projects. This role will play a key part in ensuring projects are technically sound, compliant with regulatory requirements, and aligned with interconnection and construction schedules.

The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, EPC teams, utilities, regulators, and third-party engineers to support projects from early design through interconnection and implementation. This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone with strong technical knowledge, excellent coordination skills, and a solid understanding of renewable energy project delivery.

Role Overview

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for engineering design, interconnection planning, regulatory coordination, and technical support across renewable energy projects, primarily solar PV and BESS. The role includes producing and reviewing design documentation, supporting interconnection applications, evaluating utility and ISO requirements, and helping manage technical risk throughout the project lifecycle.

This position requires someone who can balance detailed engineering work with broader project coordination and communication across multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design and Analysis

  • Perform engineering design, reviews, and design optimizations for renewable energy projects.
  • Use AutoCAD, PVSyst, and related engineering software to develop single-line diagrams, system specifications, and interconnection applications.
  • Carry out site evaluations, feasibility studies, and performance analysis for solar and energy storage systems.
  • Forecast and communicate design timelines with external engineers and contractors to support project schedules.
  • Review interconnection applications and regulatory documents to assess impacts on system design.

Interconnection and Transmission Planning

  • Lead preparation and submission of interconnection applications for renewable projects.
  • Coordinate with transmission providers throughout the interconnection study process.
  • Assess transmission and interconnection risk related to timeline, cost, and regulatory impact.
  • Negotiate and manage interconnection agreements in coordination with legal and external consultants.
  • Support feasibility, system impact, facility, and GIA phases, including steady-state, short-circuit, and stability studies.
  • Prepare power flow and stability models, technical specifications, and single-line diagrams.
  • Research and interpret utility and ISO tariffs to support application strategy.
  • Manage and communicate interconnection milestone payments and schedules.
  • Work with third-party engineers and consultants as needed.

Project Management and Coordination

  • Collaborate with project managers on technical aspects of renewable energy projects.
  • Support design reviews, interconnection work, and construction oversight.
  • Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and utility companies.
  • Assist with proposals, bid analysis, contract preparation, and schedule tracking.
  • Monitor project progress against budgets and timelines.

Regulatory Compliance and Permitting

  • Support the development team with electrical design plans that meet local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Provide technical input on site plans, zoning approvals, and permitting stages.
  • Review regulatory documentation, including interconnection agreements and utility tariffs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations affecting renewable energy electrical design.

Communication and Stakeholder Support

  • Communicate clearly with internal teams, external vendors, utilities, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Present project updates and technical findings to clients and stakeholders.
  • Document milestones, progress updates, and project outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licence required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PVSyst, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of transmission and interconnection processes.
  • Experience with risk analysis and regulatory compliance in renewable energy projects.
  • Working knowledge of solar and battery storage systems.
  • Understanding of power flow analysis, stability modelling, and single-line diagrams.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulatory documents, engineering reports, and interconnection studies.

Experience Required

  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience, ideally within renewable energy.
  • Experience with solar PV and battery storage preferred.
  • Background in interconnection planning, transmission studies, and utility compliance across U.S. power markets.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple projects and support cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in design optimisation, permitting, and electrical system performance analysis.
