Overview

We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a cutting-edge manufacturing company based in Huntington Beach, CA. This organization is pioneering advanced covered conductor insulation technologies and is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer to lead lab setup, process optimization, and materials development efforts. This is a growth-stage company with advanced funding and demand surging from utilities nationwide. You are not just another engineer in the back room — you are building something from the ground up with real influence on how the line operates. Relocation assistance will be considered

Responsibilities

  • Lead the setup, operation, and optimization of extrusion lines, crosshead dies, and cooling systems
  • Design tooling for various conductor sizes and configurations
  • Perform quality checks on insulation materials (physical, electrical, mechanical)
  • Develop and standardize the insulation process, including lab setup and testing
  • Troubleshoot production issues and lead root cause analysis using 5 Whys or similar methods
  • Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Production teams on process and material improvements
  • Document SOPs, process changes, and material test results
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, ISO-9000, and industry standards

Required

  • 5+ years proven hands-on experience in insulation line process engineering, preferably in cable or conductor manufacturing
  • Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting extrusion equipment
  • Strong knowledge of insulation materials (XLPE and HDPE )
  • Ability to design and calculate tooling for extrusion lines
  • Familiarity with material testing methods and lab setup
  • Solid problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with covered conductor processes and materials
  • Proficiency with MiniTab, Statistica, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or ERP systems
  • Familiarity with SQL-based databases (e.g., Oracle, FoxPro)

This position will work across lab, office, and manufacturing floor settings. Occasional travel to suppliers or partner sites may be required. Safety protocols and PPE compliance are strictly enforced in this facility.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
