Overview

Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Wet Insulation Inspector to oversee coating and thermal insulation quality assurance activities for subsea pipeline systems.

The role will focus on ensuring anti-corrosion coatings and wet insulation systems are applied in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and performance requirements for subsea service.

The Role

Reporting to the Project QA/QC Manager or Deck Yard QC Superintendent, the Wet Insulation Inspector will monitor coating and insulation processes at coating plants and insulation facilities.

The position will oversee the application of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE), 3-Layer Polyethylene (3LPE), and Glass Syntactic Polyurethane (GSPU) insulation systems, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Witness surface preparation and blasting activities to verify cleanliness and anchor profiles meet project standards
• Monitor application of FBE primers, adhesive layers, and polyethylene or polypropylene topcoats
• Witness high-voltage holiday testing to confirm the integrity of anti-corrosion coating systems
• Oversee wet insulation application processes including GSPU casting, molding, and injection operations
• Verify insulation thickness measurements to ensure compliance with thermal design requirements
• Monitor curing processes to ensure proper bonding and structural integrity of insulation systems
• Conduct material testing including hardness testing, adhesion testing, and peel tests
• Review laboratory results for thermal conductivity and density to verify insulation performance
• Maintain traceability of coating and insulation materials used for each pipeline component
• Prepare inspection records, coating reports, and non-conformance documentation where required
• Review and approve coating and insulation documentation for project quality dossiers

Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of pipeline coating and subsea thermal insulation systems
• Experience working with coating systems such as FBE, 3LPE, and polyurethane-based insulation materials
• Familiarity with coating and insulation standards including ISO 21809 and related corrosion protection guidelines
• Experience using inspection equipment such as DFT gauges, holiday detectors, and hardness testers
• Understanding of subsea pipeline thermal performance and flow assurance considerations
• Strong documentation, inspection reporting, and quality control skills

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering
• Mandatory NACE Coating Inspector Level 2 (CIP Level 2) or ICORR Level 2 certification
• Specialized certification in wet insulation or GSPU application advantageous
• Minimum 8 years’ experience within oil & gas or subsea pipeline projects
• At least 5 years’ experience inspecting subsea coating and thermal insulation systems
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
