Position Summary
The Welding Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality technical training in welding to Job Corps students, preparing them for industry-recognized credentials and successful careers in advanced manufacturing, construction, and related fields. This role combines classroom instruction, hands-on shop training, and mentorship to ensure students gain the skills, discipline, and confidence needed to thrive in the workforce.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Training
-
Deliver engaging lessons in welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, oxy-fuel cutting, etc.) aligned with American Welding Society (AWS) standards

Provide both classroom instruction and hands-on shop demonstrations

Maintain lesson plans, curriculum alignment, and training achievement records (eTAR).

Student Development

Promote a positive, safe, and motivating learning environment

Establish strong rapport with students, modeling employability and workplace readiness skills

Monitor and evaluate student progress, providing feedback and support to help them achieve credentials

Assist students in preparing for job placement, apprenticeships, advanced training, or further education
Program & Compliance

Ensure compliance with Job Corps Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH), safety standards, and center procedures
-
Maintain accurate attendance, evaluations, and progress reports
-
Support industry partnerships to expand work-based learning and employment opportunities

Maintain accountability of tools, equipment, and shop safety
Qualifications
-
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher
-
Industry certification (AWS or equivalent) or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe

Minimum 3–5 years of welding experience in industry or instruction

Experience working with diverse youth populations

Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills
-
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
