Welding Inspector
Responsibilities
- Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 structural welding code.
- Verify compliance of welds with engineering drawings, WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), and acceptance criteria.
- Support quality and production teams by identifying and documenting nonconformances.
- Ensure welds meet dimensional tolerances and acceptance standards.
- Maintain inspection records and prepare reports.
- Communicate effectively with welders, supervisors, and quality team members to resolve issues.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to weld quality and inspection processes.
Qualifications
- Required: AWS D1.1 Certified Weld Inspector (code-specific certification) – CWI license not required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in weld inspection or related fabrication environment.
- Strong understanding of weld symbols, drawings, and AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria.
- Familiarity with measuring tools (calipers, gauges, etc.).
- Ability to read and interpret welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Qualifications
- Experience in heavy manufacturing, structural fabrication, or transit vehicle welding.
- Knowledge of additional welding codes (AWS D1.3, D1.6, or equivalent).
- Background in ISO 9001:2015 or other quality management systems.
