Job Summary:
The Welder II role entails reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering plans and must be able to work without constant oversight. The position uses blueprints along with other data, such as work plans, to determine correct weld sequence to minimize or eliminate any warpage due to heat input. The Welder II will also layout, cut, fit, prep, tack, and weld components together to meet drawing specifications and requirements using the specified weld procedures dictated in the Fabrication, Inspection, and Test plan for each individual job. This role is responsible for ensuring their completed components safely meet or exceed drawing configurations and tolerances.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
Perform welding on critical and support equipment to a qualified Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).Perform structural welding on parts and components per the requirements ofvariousspecifications as prescribed by Project Travelers,Engineering Drawings,and Work Orders.
Read, understand, and follow Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs)
Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Company policies and procedures.
Read and understand engineering drawings and welding symbols.
Fabricateandweld partsin accordance withProject documentation.
Sufficient working knowledge ofmaterialsto determine the proper WPS to useand the ability to select the correct filler metal and gas per WPS requirements.
Determine thepropersequence of welding in order to prevent or reduce the amount of warpage to the work piece.
Fabricate weldfixtures as necessary to perform individual welding projects.
Welding: Successfully certify in two or more welding operations in accordance with WPSs for processes such as FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW as required. Including pre and post weld heating operations as specified in WPSs as applicable.
Assembly: assemble basic mechanical equipment,structural components, and piping systems.
Perform self-verification of welded parts and assemblies before inspection to ensure quality of work performed meets or exceeds acceptance criteria.
Interface with QA/QC personnel.
Report unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.
Measurework pieces to determine accuracy and acceptability per given requirements.
Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from work piece.
Ensure that all documentation (including weld records) isfilled out correctly andkept currentas work progresses.
Keep a clean and organized work area.
Required Qualifications:
3+years experience with a list of previous welding qualifications; OR a combination of 1+ years experience and an Associates of Applied Sciences in Welding Technology or equivalent.
Ability to pass a Columbia Energy weld test.
Ability to operate tools, machinery, and vehicles safely.
Ability to read, write and comprehend both verbal communications and written directions.
Ability to read a tape measure.
Ability to perform arithmetic as required for layout and fabrication i.e.,add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and decimals, solvefor missing angles orsides of a triangle, etc.
Ability to travel tofield sites when necessary.
Must pass an employment record, criminal background check and a drug screen (drug and alcohol-free workplace).
Must have reliable transportation to work each day.
Qualifications:
Experience in R&D or Prototype fabrication.
Experience working to a NQA-1 or ASME Section VIII program.
Experience performing welds subjected to testing such as UT and RT
Ability to weld pipe, sheet metal, and structural steel.
Valid drivers license and possess a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements:
- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Required to use verbal communication. Required to use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull: objects, materials, controls and tools repetitively. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
- Required to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work from platforms and man lifts, and may occasionally work out on an open structure using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and safety-toed work boots.
- Required to work in hot/cold/damp environments.
Working Conditions while Performing Essential Functions:
This position is performed in a shop/construction/field setting.The atmosphere is fast-paced and deadline-oriented with focus on safety and quality.
