Fabricator / Welder (Afternoon / Twilight Shift)
Shift: Monday to Wednesday: 2:15 pm – 12:30 am; Thursday: 2:15 pm – 12:00 am.
Location: Ilkley, Leeds
Salary: £40,298 (Including Shift Allowance) - £19.11p/h
Key Responsibilities:
Identify and gather all required parts for each stage of assembly.
Verify parts against the bill of materials to ensure accuracy and quality standards.
Prepare components for welding and assembly according to work orders and technical drawings.
Set up and adjust welding equipment, including amperage, voltage, wire speed, and gas flow.
Perform welds and inspect them to ensure correct sizing and compliance with specifications.
Carry out MIG welding and basic TIG welding as required.
Operate rolling and swaging machinery (training will be provided).
Use hand tools to finish and polish steel to the required specifications.
Cut components using gas, plasma, or cutting discs.
Assemble machine sections and smaller components following engineering drawings.
Fabricate basic pipework, including pneumatic and general piping systems.
Conduct quality checks to ensure assemblies meet dimensional and tolerance requirements.
Tag or mark completed assemblies and store them appropriately as directed.
Work within safety-critical welding parameters and approved processes.
Meet production deadlines while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
Safely handle and move components using lifting equipment and overhead cranes.
Follow all company safe working practices and standard operating procedures.
Flexibly carry out other duties at a similar level to support operational needs.
Qualifications & Experience:
Plate Welder Apprenticeship Level 3, Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering, or equivalent
ISO 9606 coded welder certification (desirable)
Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a fabricator (including apprenticeship)
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Confident using hand tools (training provided if required)
Experience handling large fabrications (desirable)
Strong understanding of health & safety and quality standards Knowledge of welding symbols and various welding processes
Familiarity with working to job cards (desirable).

Ability to meet deadlines and work to production schedules
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Good verbal communication skills
Strong commitment to safety and quality
Ability to work at height and in confined spaces
Good written English
