Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
The Water Plant Operator assists the Water Production Foreman with the physical operation of the water production facilities, wells, pump stations, ground and elevated storage facilities, chlorination and chemical injection stations and general plant clean up and appearance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Able to operate light and heavy equipment when needed.
- Experience in underground utilities repair and maintenance.
- Must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License or higher.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year of hire date.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a Class C Groundwater Production License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and departmental policies and procedures.
- Must display proficiency in both job management and personnel management.
- Must be able to understand and read plans and design specifications and be able to transfer work from paper to construction.
- Must display fundamental knowledge of water system, water plants and SCADA program.
- Must be able to attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
- Must be able to work on-call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
- Must be able to lift weights up to 100 pounds.
- Must be capable of conducting routine maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
- Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
- Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel or sit for long periods of time.
- Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking in English.
- Must be able to communicate using a two-way radio.
Protective Equipment Required:
Ear and eye protection, boots, gloves, self-contained breathing apparatus, atmospheric monitor, traffic control.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.
