And hope.\n\nPrisons have a dedicated education department, with classrooms and fully functioning workshops, where teaching and learning can take place. You will be fully supported by an experienced education department.

Training and development opportunities are available.\n\nDetails of this position:\n\nThis position is for a full time Waste Management/Recycling Instructor in prison education.\n\nThe role is based near York, in a brand new prison. \n\nAs a Production Workshop Supervisor, you'll oversee manufacturing operations in a prison-based workshop, supervising a small team of prisoners repurposing mattresses and beds. Your role is essential in ensuring production targets and quality standards are met while maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive work environment.\n\nYou'll provide practical training, manage workflows, and embed key employability skills like teamwork, time management, and quality control-helping prisoners build a foundation for future employment.\n\nInduct prisoners into the workshop, provide hands-on training in manufacturing processes, and ensure compliance with health & safety protocols.\nSet work schedules, oversee production, and ensure all work meets contractual and quality standards.\nLead a small team, encourage a positive work ethic, and foster a rehabilitative environment using restorative practices.\nConduct risk assessments, maintain tool security, and ensure compliance with prison safety regulations.\nWork with Work & Skills Coaches to help prisoners develop transferable skills for employment upon release.\nManage materials, inventory, and production targets while maintaining accurate records.Work schedule: Full time 38.5 hours per week\n\nSalary scale: From £28,000 per annum\n\nAnnual leave: 28 days per annum\n\nTo be considered, suitable candidates will need to meet the following criteria:\n\nExperience in manufacturing, production, warehousing, or industrial operations\nAbility to lead a team, set productivity goals, and maintain quality standards.\nStrong awareness of health, safety, and risk management in a hands-on work environment.\nConfident in organizing workloads, training individuals, and monitoring progress.\nUnderstanding of security protocols in a structured setting (experience in a custodial environment is a plus).\nIdeally, a teaching, assessor, or TAQA qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
