Location: Kauri Coast, New Zealand

Duration: Minimum 2 weeks

Cost: $1300 USD for the first two weeks + $330 for each additional week

Organization Details

This sanctuary is a non-profit in Tutamoe Peak's cloud-forest, home to the kiwi bird and giant kauri snail. Volunteers help protect and restore this ecosystem, working on trail creation, invasive species control, planting, pest monitoring, and habitat preservation. The project offers a meaningful ecological contribution and an unforgettable experience.

Activities

Volunteers will be involved in tasks such as:

Trail marking and cutting

Monitoring and installing bait stations for pests

Wildlife monitoring (kiwi, kokako, rodents, bats, lizards, freshwater fish)

Data entry, gardening, building, and landscaping

Wood chopping and more

Activities vary, balancing maintenance and sustainability tasks for a well-rounded experience. Daily routine includes breakfast, work, leisure, and exploration, with special outings like night safaris and local sightseeing. Adaptability to weather and a proactive attitude are essential. Time is also allotted for relaxation and exploration of the surrounding areas.
