Summary: The Vice President of Human Resources is an active member of the executive team and is responsible for the development, direction, and leadership of all human resources functions as well as ensuring that the business affairs are carried out consistent with requirements, promptly and in compliance with ethical standards, federal and state laws, and administrative regulations. In addition, the Vice President of Human Resources directs and coordinates human resources activities to include recruitment and selection, compensation, labor relations, policy analysis, employee benefits, payroll, training and development, employee communication, and employee recognition programs. The Vice President of Human Resources is an integral member of the management and executive team who participates in the decision-making processes, offering both advice regarding personnel matters for the corporation.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: including the following. Other duties may be assigned.  

·         Defines, manages and leads the Human Resources Department that will enhance the strategic mission, vision and values of the corporation.

·         Champions diversity and inclusion initiatives, working to create a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace culture.

·         Maintains exceptionally high degrees of confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to this position.

·         Establishes key Human Resources performance metrics and regularly report on department effectiveness to senior leadership.

·         Plays a crucial role in shaping company culture, attracting and retaining top talent, and ensuring that our Human Resources policies and practices align with business objectives.

·         Manages internal and external Human Resources processes to a high standard, working collaboratively with other departments that are critical to the operations of the corporation.

·         Develops, and manages consistent Human Resources policies and procedures as well as corporate policies and procedures to ensure that all employment practices are in compliance with federal, state and local laws, and amend when necessary.

·         Represents management in labor relations while verifying adherence to the terms of labor contracts by monitoring implementation of policies and procedures.

·         Meets with stewards and supervisors to investigate and resolve grievances and represent management in arbitrations and labor board hearings.

·         Leads the procurement of human resources consultants and benefits.

·         Represents management in negotiating collective bargaining agreements and/or serve as a resource to negotiators by providing information on provisions of current contract and significance of proposed changes.

·         Administers, directs and facilitates the property Human Resources functions.

·         Ensures that wages and benefits are accurately administered.

·         Manages wage and compensation program and advise executive team on organizational reporting structure and job descriptions.

·         Monitors overall compliance with local, state and federal laws, as well as established policies and procedures.

·         Coaches and counsels managers on Human Resources matters.

·         Proposes and implements staff training programs based on company needs.

·         Develops, implements and oversees the Human Resources budget;

·         Develops and implements annual Human Resources goals.

·         Oversees the maintenance and communication of records and reports required by law or local governing bodies; and

·         Provides oversight of ADA for compliance serving as the ADA Coordinator.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources and three HR Directors directly report to this position.

·         Ability to operate in an extremely fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities.

·         Results-oriented with a track record of success in delivering on business objectives.

·         Ability to maintain exceptionally high degrees of confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to this position.

·         Ability to navigate high stress situations.

·         Must maintain security clearance as a condition of continued employment.

·         Must maintain an active driver’s license and remain insurable.

 

 

 

Education/Experience:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.

·         Juris Doctorate or master’s degree strongly preferred.

·         PHR, SPHR, GPHR certification a plus.

·         A minimum of ten (10) years’ of progressive experience leading a human resources department with union experience strongly preferred.
