VFD Technician

Position: Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) Technician
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Carmel, IN
Salary Range: $65,000–$100,000 (Depending on experience and qualifications)

Role Summary:
The VFD Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and maintaining Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems at client sites. This role requires strong electrical knowledge, hands-on field experience, and excellent problem-solving skills. The technician will work independently and as part of a team to ensure optimal performance and reliability of VFD equipment567.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, commission, and configure VFD units for HVAC and industrial applications.
• Troubleshoot and repair VFDs from multiple manufacturers, ensuring minimal downtime for clients.
• Perform preventative maintenance, calibration, and system upgrades as needed567.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency service calls.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Provide basic training and operational guidance to clients on VFD systems.
• Maintain accurate service records, complete work orders, and communicate job progress to management and customers.
• Adhere to all safety standards and protocols, including OSHA requirements.
• Collaborate with the electrical and controls team to deliver integrated solutions.
• Maintain inventory of parts and supplies, and order replacements as necessary.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years (senior roles may require 7+ years) of hands-on experience with VFD installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Strong knowledge of three-phase motors, control circuits, and VFD electrical systems.
• Experience with PLC, SCADA/HMI codes, and field metering/calibration devices is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, fabrication drawings, and electrical schematics.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent safety certification .
• Valid driver’s license; ability to lift 50 pounds and work at heights or on ladders.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• Experience with gas detection systems and humidifiers is a plus.
