Utilities Operator
My manufacturing client requires a Utilities Operator to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all utilities systems at the distillery, including steam boilers, water treatment, CHP plant, effluent treatment, cooling towers, and compressed air systems. The role is key to supporting 24/7 production targets, while maintaining optimal asset lifecycle cost and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead daily utilities plant operations (Monday-Friday dayshift), ensuring safety, compliance, and cost efficiency.
Maximise availability and reliability of utilities systems to support continuous production.
Plan and oversee utilities maintenance activities, including shutdown and breakdown support.
Act as an Authorised Person for safe systems of work: RAMS, PTW, isolation procedures, and contractor management.
Drive and support CAPEX and continuous improvement projects focused on safety, volume, asset uptime, and cost.
Complete training and maintain core competencies relevant to the roleEssential Experience & Skills:
Operation and/or maintenance experience with:
Steam boilers and steam systems
CHP plants
Effluent treatment (including biogas)
Cooling towers and compressed air systems
Competency in mechanical and electrical inspection, fault finding, and basic maintenance
Demonstrated use of safe systems of work (COSHH, RAMS, LOTO, PTW, confined space entry/rescue)
Proficient in Microsoft Office and CMMS systems
Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals
Proven track record in continuous improvementDesirable Experience:
BOAS accreditation
Experience in brewing/distilling or other COMAH/high-risk environments
Familiarity with ATEX/DSEAR environmentsEducation & Qualifications:
Desirable: HNC or equivalent in an engineering or technical discipline
Health & Safety qualifications (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH)
