Position Summary

Responsibilities

  • The Intern will gain advanced technical skills working in research and development
  • Work both as part of a team and independently to develop software, collect and analyze data, and creatively solve complex problems
  • Document project progress and communicate results to team members
  • Prepare GUI tools for scientific programming applications
  • Develop plugins and workflows to connect to commercial physics simulation tools
  • Work with sensor data from advanced manufacturing robotics systems
  • May assist in the development of artificial intelligence algorithms, particularly as it relates to physics modeling and autonomous path planning
  • Work with engineers and scientists to transition software prototypes into market-ready software products
  • Maintain secure handling of proprietary engineering data and adhere to cybersecurity procedures
  • Perform other duties, as required

Education / Experience

  • Major in a related field such as computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, or applied mathematics or physics
  • Must be a current Undergraduate student with at least Junior standing at the beginning of the period
  • Must be in good academic standing and be passionate about creating software to model physics and control devices for engineering applications
  • Skill in Python and one of C/C++/Java and project/work experience in the context of GUI/application development
    • Coursework in AI/ML, robotics, and/or engineering design is desirable
    • Additional experience in engineering software such as SolidWorks, COMSOL, MATLAB, or Abaqus is a plus
  • Experience with software design and codebase management for large projects
  • Have excellent communication, writing, and documentation skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm in optimization, numerical methods, physics, and robotics are all a plus
  • Highly motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with a desire to learn and tackle new challenges
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S
