The Role
The California Transportation Lead will spearhead project delivery, client engagement, and team development across a diverse portfolio of roadway and infrastructure work. Reporting into senior leadership, this role balances strategic oversight with hands-on project involvement. Success in the role looks like strong team leadership, consistent delivery of high-quality projects, and growth of the firm’s market presence within California’s transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of transportation engineers, fostering a positive and professional team culture

Oversee financial performance, resource planning, and recruitment within the transportation group

Direct project delivery from planning through PS&E, ensuring alignment with Caltrans and local standards

Engage regularly with clients and agency partners, building strong long-term relationships

Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and proposals for Caltrans and municipal contracts

Ensure technical excellence across deliverables, including roadway design and construction support

Identify and integrate innovative transportation tools and best practices across the group

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive internal alignment and process improvements.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)

Active California P.E. license (required)

10+ years of transportation engineering experience, including Caltrans and local agency work

Strong working knowledge of Caltrans project development processes and PS&E delivery

Demonstrated experience in project leadership, team management, and client engagement

Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD; Civil 3D or InRoads experience is a plus

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within California as needed
