California Transportation Lead – Hybrid | Irvine, CA

The Role

The California Transportation Lead will spearhead project delivery, client engagement, and team development across a diverse portfolio of roadway and infrastructure work. Reporting into senior leadership, this role balances strategic oversight with hands-on project involvement. Success in the role looks like strong team leadership, consistent delivery of high-quality projects, and growth of the firm’s market presence within California’s transportation sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of transportation engineers, fostering a positive and professional team culture

  • Oversee financial performance, resource planning, and recruitment within the transportation group

  • Direct project delivery from planning through PS&E, ensuring alignment with Caltrans and local standards

  • Engage regularly with clients and agency partners, building strong long-term relationships

  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and proposals for Caltrans and municipal contracts

  • Ensure technical excellence across deliverables, including roadway design and construction support

  • Identify and integrate innovative transportation tools and best practices across the group

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive internal alignment and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)

  • Active California P.E. license (required)

  • 10+ years of transportation engineering experience, including Caltrans and local agency work

  • Strong working knowledge of Caltrans project development processes and PS&E delivery

  • Demonstrated experience in project leadership, team management, and client engagement

  • Proficiency with MicroStation and AutoCAD; Civil 3D or InRoads experience is a plus

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within California as needed
