Already working in Telecoms or Traffic Management but looking for a break into fibre, a role that will support you with training and formal qualifications that will include external sector accredited courses on underground and overhead PIA, NRSWA, etc, as well as internal training on the Gigaclear network, fibre splicing and testing.
Reporting to the Operations Manager the Traffic Management operative will be responsible for a variety of tasks involved in the repair of the Gigaclear FTTH / FTTP network. Principally the setting up of Traffic Management including temporary traffic lights and road closures. Works will also include the repair of traditional (civils / buried) and PIA PON underground and overhead build methodologies. Responsible for ensuring all works meet Gigaclear standards as well as compliance with NRSWA, SROH and the relevant build & fibre specifications.
Note, this role will require driving a flat bed lorry and will pick up and drop off TM kit from our Swindon Warehouse, with travel around our Central Region sites (Oxon, Berks, Bucks, etc).
Key Accountability & Responsibilities
Supporting civils and fibre engineers with delivery of the allocated work programmes, working with stakeholders to deliver on time, safely and to standard
Responsible for setting up traffic management compliantly and safely, undertaking repair and maintenance of FTTP network
Responsible for adherence to Highways permitting legislation, ensuring CAD drawings are adhered to in accordance with highways
Affective pre-works planning: ensuring all required tooling, materials/ consumables, plant(hire), traffic management (site drawing, HA permit approvals and supplier support) are correct and in place on allocated works
Aligning with Senior Tech and desk team to ensure adequate engineer resource is underpinned for allocated work site(s)
Fibre splicing and testing
Responsibility for their own and teams’ assurance across quality and Health & Safety standards
Knowledge & Skills
Ideally an experienced and qualified TM Operative, with some Fibre and / or Telecoms repair / installation experience desirable
Strong knowledge of highways legislation, including working from CAD drawings and permit conditions.
Knowledge of Telecoms networks, ideally fibre optic networks (FTTH / FTTP)
Or previous experience of installations, fault fix, repair and maintenance
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and fault fix network issues.
Previous knowledge and experience of in the field Civils specifications desirable – eg NRSWA
Previous experience of delivery to pre-defined project schedules
Able to understand, interpret and adhere to risk & method assessments.
Qualifications & Accreditations
Full driving licence (manual)
DBS check (or ability to pass)
Ideally already hold a NRSWA and Lantra M1/M2
