Job Description
RS&H is currently seeking a Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in our Richmond, VA office!
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent technical knowledge of traffic engineering fundamentals. The candidate will be knowledgeable in all aspects of traffic engineering production and be able to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to traffic engineering. This position will have the ability to work a hybrid schedule of in-office and remote.
The ideal candidate has traffic engineering experience including:
- Capacity and Microsimulation Analysis
- Safety Studies and Crash Predictive Analysis
- Traffic Forecasting
- ITS Planning and Design
- Traffic Signal Timings and Design
- Signing and Pavement Markings
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
- Lighting Design
Essential Functions:
- Deliver traffic engineering services for VDOT and other local clients.
- Performs quality control reviews and ensures achievement of key milestones.
- Formulates and solves problems with timely and innovative solutions.
- Maintains professional registration and licensure by ensuring conformance with professional, ethical, educational, and discipline practice requirements. Remains knowledgeable of all applicable federal, state, and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances that are pertinent to respective discipline.
- May provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration. May also manage discipline and small multidisciplinary teams and ensure adherence to company and project contractual requirements.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.
Qualifications:
- Accredited Bachelor or Master's of Engineering degree or other professionally recognized equivalent discipline.
- 5+ years’ experience within the field of traffic engineering.
- Professional registration (PE) within the field of engineering.
- Extensive traffic forecasting, traffic operations analysis, and safety evaluation experience.
- Proficient in production and traffic software experience including HCS, Synchro, SIDRA, and VISSIM.
- Experience with ITS Planning and Design, Signal timing and design studies, signal operations, signing and pavement marking, maintenance of traffic (MOT), Lighting related projects.
- Experience with softwares like TruTraffic and Microstation.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills and can effectively interact and build strong relationships with team members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
- Familiarity with local, state and traffic engineering standards and practices.
- Prior experience delivering traffic engineering and design projects for VDOT .
