Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Develop new thermal mechanical technologies by researching and developing concepts, initial prototypes, performing functional and reliability tests, and transferring of technology to high volume production.

Perform analysis to determine if specifications are realistic and estimate risk exposure: thermal dynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), thermal / mechanical finite element analysis (FEA), mean time between failure (MTBF), and failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA), or other mathematical models.

Participate or manage all development phases of assigned projects, including requirement definition, design, test, integration, deployment, and support.

Develop and maintain project requirements, specifications, detailed plans, budgets, and ROI.

Track project progression to ensure on-time completion and delivery while adhering to product development processes.

Research and verify the performance and reliability of new vendor components.

Work cross-functionally with electrical, software, vision, LAB technicians locally, in Germany and Switzerland, and with remote satellite centers in Malaysia, Korea, and Taiwan.

Interface directly with operations, sales, customers, and other Cohu Businesses as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Provide work leadership and training to lower-level technical or professional employees.

Supervise lower-level engineering personnel during project execution.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree is .

Minimum of eight or more years of experience in mechanical and thermal engineering design and analysis, with strong emphasis on heat transfer, fluids, and structural analysis.

Skills/Technical Requirements include excellent numerical analysis and mathematical modeling skills, proficiency with SolidWorks/Cosmos, experience with engineering documentation, MATLAB or similar software, knowledge of engineering standards like GD&T, and familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Excellent communication, presentation, and data analysis skills.

Job Conditions/Physical Demands:

Domestic and international travel up to 25%.

Prolonged periods at a computer workstation, work in lab environments, and ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
