The Terminal Safety & Operations Support Specialist supports day-to-day safety operations across multiple terminals, serving as an on-site resource for drivers, dispatch, and district administration. This position plays a vital role in accident response, driver accountability, safety training coordination, and real-time operational support. The Support Specialist works closely with the Safety Director to implement field-level safety initiatives and uphold company standards.
(Daily travel to Wyandotte and Detroit as needed)
Requirements:
- Serve as an on-site safety presence at multiple terminals, providing Safety Department visibility and accessibility to drivers and dispatch staff.
- Respond to accidents and incidents to assist with photo documentation, driver and witness statements, and securing the scene.
- Retrieve and organize video footage and assist with video review for investigation purposes.
- Track corrective action plans and retraining assignments and verify completion of required follow-up.
- Participate in the onboarding and mentoring of new drivers by reinforcing safety expectations at the terminal level.
- Support dispatch during peak hours or emergencies by relaying safety-critical information and ensuring drivers are compliant before departure.
- Monitor and follow up on equipment condition reports, vehicle cleanliness, and minor safety-related maintenance concerns.
- Communicate safety trends, concerns, and driver behavior observations to the Director of Safety.
- Maintain investigation logs, safety meeting attendance, and corrective action documentation in coordination with the main Safety Office.
- Support the implementation of structured weekly safety huddles and training initiatives at the terminal level by facilitating attendance, reinforcing key messages, and ensuring follow-through on assigned content.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in transportation, operations, or safety support.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence behavior in a professional and respectful way.
- Familiarity with fleet management systems.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation and follow-up skills.
- Able to work across multiple terminals and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
- CDL A/B with S and P endorsements but not required.
