Metiri is a trusted analytical lab delivering environmental testing, and we're looking for a Temp Laboratory Technician to join our team!


The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in analyzing samples of soil, air, or water, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and driving the company’s mission to promote environmental health and sustainability. This temporary position is expected to last 6 - 8 weeks, with the possibility of extension based on the needs of the project. Recent graduates with a degree in a science field and familiarity with basic laboratory practices are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

Sample Management

  • Coordinate closely with members of the Login team to receive, organize, and label incoming samples, ensuring chain of custody.
  • Check samples for thermal and chemical preservation and adjust as needed, recording any checks and adjustments.
  • Organize and maintain the sample storage areas so that sample location is known and easily accessible, and properly dispose of samples following established protocols.

Laboratory Testing

  • Perform accurate and on time prep and analysis of samples, adhering to strict Quality Assurance procedures and safety protocols to ensure results meet data quality objectives and to minimize re-analysis.
  • Assist Laboratory Analysts with weighing, measuring, and cleaning labware; maintaining inventories of supplies, materials, chemicals and equipment; and ensuring clean, safe, organized work area.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Operate laboratory instruments/support equipment and perform routine maintenance, cleaning, troubleshooting, calibration, and basic repair.

Data Recording & Reporting

  • Review laboratory data and enter results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Document all aspects of the analytical process to ensure complete audit/reconstruction of results.
  • Proactively report status updates and potential delays to relevant teams or members of leadership.

Perform all other duties as assigned.


Education

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.

Experience/Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting , but recent graduates with relevant coursework are encouraged to apply.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of environmental testing methods and laboratory practices.
  • Proficiency using laboratory instruments and software.
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organization skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to identify and resolve problems, gather and analyze information, and meet time-sensitive productivity standards.
  • Professional communication skills, including: reading and interpreting written information; writing clearly and legibly, such as when preparing forms/logs/reports; listening to understand directives, feedback, or complex issues; speaking clearly and persuasively to share information, confirm details, and ask follow-up questions.

Work Environment

  • Laboratory environment with routine exposure to chemicals and testing equipment.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • May require occasional outdoor sample collection.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, and lifting items up to 25lbs.
  • Repetitive use of hands/fingers and fine motor skills for typing, grasping, and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Close visual acuity to view computer monitors, read/prepare data, and determine size//shape.
