Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Telecom Engineer to support the design and implementation of telecommunications systems across complex energy facilities.
The role will contribute to the development of critical communication infrastructure required for operational coordination, plant safety, and emergency response systems.
The Role
Reporting to the Living Quarter Engineering Coordinator, the Telecom Engineer will support the design, specification, and integration of telecommunications systems within large-scale energy facilities.
Working closely with engineering teams, vendors, and project stakeholders, the role will ensure telecom systems are designed, installed, and commissioned in line with project specifications, operational requirements, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and support the design of telecom system architectures including voice and data networks, radio communications, and safety communication systems
- Assess technical deliverables such as telecom specifications, network diagrams, and system layouts
- Support implementation of systems including IP telephony, LAN/WAN networks, Wi-Fi infrastructure, PAGA systems, CCTV, and radio communications
- Coordinate telecom interfaces with plant control systems, safety systems, and operational infrastructure
- Ensure telecom designs comply with industry standards and hazardous area requirements
- Support procurement activities including preparation of technical documentation and evaluation of vendor submissions
- Participate in equipment testing and acceptance activities including factory and site testing
- Provide support during installation, integration, and commissioning of telecom systems
- Assist operations teams with troubleshooting, configuration updates, and system documentation where required
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of telecommunications systems used in industrial or energy facilities
- Experience with IP networking, fiber-optic communication systems, radio systems, CCTV, and PAGA systems
- Familiarity with telecom integration with control systems and emergency response infrastructure
- Knowledge of telecom standards and hazardous area requirements
- Experience coordinating vendors and supporting telecom system installation and commissioning
- Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Automation & Control Engineering or a related discipline
- Minimum 10 years’ experience within telecommunications engineering for energy or industrial projects
- Experience working with telecom infrastructure within large industrial or offshore environments
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Additional Information
The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
