Technical Writer (Power /Maintenance Documentation)
An experienced Technical Writer is sought for a large-scale power plant maintenance and operations initiative. This role involves developing, organizing, and maintaining detailed technical documentation for maintenance, outage, and restart activities across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls disciplines. This position is part of a long-term project supporting critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, edit, and maintain technical documentation, including maintenance work packages, job plans, procedures, and task sequencing.
Translate complex technical input from engineering, maintenance, and operations teams into clear written documentation.
Support preventive and corrective maintenance documentation efforts.
Assist with scoping work orders and documenting labor, materials, tools, and resource requirements.
Collaborate with engineering, operations, maintenance, and planning teams to ensure documentation readiness and accuracy.
Utilize maintenance management systems to support documentation and work planning activities.
Support outage, turnaround, and restart documentation requirements.
Ensure documentation aligns with safety, regulatory, and organizational standards.
Provide documentation support to scheduling and execution teams as needed.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3–5+ years of technical writing experience in an industrial, energy, utilities, or highly regulated environment. Experience working with maintenance or asset management systems is required. The role requires experience documenting maintenance activities involving pumps, valves, piping, rotating equipment, and instrumentation.
Technical Skills: The ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and I&C documentation, drawings, and procedures is necessary. Candidates must have the capacity to work independently in a remote environment and collaborate effectively with distributed teams.
Qualifications
Experience supporting power facilities or large industrial sites.
Familiarity with maintenance planning, outage planning, or major maintenance initiatives.
Exposure to scheduling tools.
Experience documenting electrical or instrumentation and controls systems in addition to mechanical systems.
Experience working in highly regulated or safety-conscious environments.
Compensation & Benefits
The pay rate for this position is between $55.00 and $70.00 per hour. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, and location. Eligible employees may be offered a benefits package.
