Job Description

Provides technical expertise and oversees operational efficiencies of all automation equipment in the Molecular Genomics Department, including implementation of new procedures, revisions, automation equipment needs and other specific projects. Is a technical resource and provides support, utilizing advanced critical thinking skills and problem-solving knowledge of automated systems, while also working with vendors to troubleshoot equipment or supply issues. Assists in teaching, training and competency assessment of automated equipment. Works closely with department leadership and section directors to successfully complete validation projects. Oversees all inventory and ordering of supplies for the department, while working with vendors and supply chain. Utilizes critical thinking skills and advanced knowledge of techniques, principles and automated equipment. Successfully and timely completes all required competency assessments.


Current testing includes:

  • DNA & RNA extraction and storage
  • BCR/ABL (p190/p210)
  • Qualitative & Quantitative analysis
  • Chimerism/ engrafment analysis
  • Next- sequencing (NGS)".

Qualifications:


1. Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following Biology, Medical Laboratory Science (formerly Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology), Microbiology, Molecular Biology or Chemistry/Biochemistry is required.


2. A minimum of 2 years of Molecular Genomics experience is required - specific to area in which work will be performed.


3. ASCP Certification in Molecular Genomics is required within one year of date of hire or promotion into position.
