About the Opportunity
Merlin Cyber is looking for a Technical Solutions Engineer for our Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) Technical Practice Area. This individual will serve as technical pre-sales, lead initial deployments, and provide Tier 1/2 support for our customers and partners. This role spans the full customer journey: engaging technically during pre-sales, leading secure deployments, and providing hands-on technical support during early operations. You'll help clients discover and manage their cryptographic infrastructure and prepare for a quantum-ready future.
Our customers include U.S. federal agencies and critical infrastructure providers, where mission success depends on crypto discovery, modernization, lifecycle management, and agility.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales Engineering
- Provide technical consultation and architectural guidance related to the deployment of portfolio tools that perform cryptographic inventory and analysis. To include SaaS, on-premises, and container installations.
- Perform product demonstrations, proof-of-concept implementations, and technical briefings to illustrate value and differentiation with a focus on tool integrations and advanced dashboard configuration.
- Contribute to technical sections of proposals, white papers, and compliance mappings (e.g., FedRAMP, FIPS 140-3, NIST, CSfC guidelines).
Initial Deployment
- Execute onboarding and configuration in cloud and hybrid environments, including AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, and on-prem setups.
- Integrate platform with enterprise cryptographic stores, PKI, HSMs, and certificate management tools.
- Enable crypto asset discovery across distributed environments, including containers, applications, and legacy systems.
- Facilitate admin training and early operational use of the system.
Tier 1 and Tier 2 Support Engineering
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer-reported technical issues during onboarding and early production phases.
- Provide Level 1 triage, including issue categorization, replication, and logging.
- Deliver Level 2 technical troubleshooting: logs analysis, API call tracing, platform configuration review, and detailed root cause diagnosis.
- Work with engineering and product teams to escalate and resolve deeper software bugs or feature gaps.
- Document support cases, resolutions, and lessons learned in knowledge base articles or FAQs.
- Assist in refining support workflows and SLAs for mission-critical federal environments.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or related technical field.
- 4+ years of experience in pre-sales, solution engineering, or technical consulting.
- 2+ years of hands-on deployment or integration of SaaS/cloud-based security solutions (especially in government or regulated environments).
- 2+ years of experience supporting enterprise software, including Tier 1 or Tier 2 technical support.
- Deep familiarity with cryptographic technologies: TLS/SSL, PKI, HSM, digital certificates, keys, and standard encryption schemes.
- Experience working with federal security compliance frameworks (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, ICD-500 and relevant series).
- Strong communication and presentation skills for both technical and executive audiences.
- Experience managing support queues and customer case triage processes using platforms like Zendesk, Jira, or ServiceNow.
- Knowledge of cryptographic agility, post-quantum cryptography, or NIST SP 800-57, 800-130, or 800-131A
- Knowledge of log aggregation tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK stack) and debugging tools (e.g., Wireshark, curl, Postman).
- Ability to write support and troubleshooting documentation (e.g., KB articles, runbooks).
- Familiarity with cloud- infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker, IAM, VPCs) and DevOps tooling (Terraform, Ansible, Git).
- Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
Work Environment & Location
This role is hybrid; candidates located near the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) are due to occasional collaborative sessions at our headquarters in Tysons Corner, VA.
